Kindergarten Readiness

Our Mission

Curriculum

Our day

Our mission in the Kindergarten Readiness program is to encompass the same core pillars of LEAF Pediatric Therapy. Together, we will Learn, Explore, Achieve, and Function in an environment that cultivates developmentally appropriate learning and skills. We believe that PLAY is the best way to LEARN. Our program will provide many opportunities for hands-on learning that is designed to promote each child’s own social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Our goal is to provide children with engaging and developmentally appropriate experiences to best prepare them for kindergarten and beyond. We believe in a strong emphasis on social emotional learning so that we can prepare our future citizens to be problem solvers and treat others with empathy, kindness, and respect.

Students will be immersed in themed activities from the Pocket of Preschool curriculum and Heggerty Phonological Awareness Early Pre-Kindergarten curriculum to enhance our teaching of the Montana Early Learning Standards. If we think of the Learning Standards as the road, then curriculum is our vehicle to travel that road. The Pocket of Preschool curriculum includes math and literacy, science, STEM, social/emotional, fine motor, and social studies infused into centers, whole group “circle time”, independent learning, and small group activities.

Our Kindergarten Readiness program runs Monday through Thursday from 8:30-11:30 am. We start our day with table time to work on independent activities that target fine motor skills. We meet together at morning meeting to discuss our daily agenda and work on important social emotional skills while incorporating movement and music. Next is center time where students learn through playing in centers like dramatic play, science, sensory bin, art, and blocks. Students also work with a certified teacher in small groups or individually to target the areas in which each child may need more instruction. We participate in a snack together, gross motor/recess time, and a structured math or literacy whole group lesson that includes an activity with hands on components and movement. Each day rotates between an art lesson focusing on process art and guided arts and crafts, an engaging science lesson, or a STEM activity that relates to our current theme.
